Xmetech provides technological advice and services for non-ferrous metal refineries throughout the world, including the largest zinc refinery in the world, located at Onsan. Xmetech is able to offer these exclusive services to clients. Upon request Xmetech can supply the following;

Zinc Production

Roasting Process ; Roasting is the first step in the zinc refining process. Raw materials are fed into the roaster which then produces zinc calcine and high SO2 gas. The zinc calcine goes into the leaching process while the gas produces sulfuric acid.

Leaching Process
The zinc calcine and the zinc concentrate are then dissolved using sulfuric acid. Iron content contained in the raw materials is removed to make iron residue. The zinc solution produced in the leaching process is then moved on to purification.

Purification
Some of the elements that were not removed in the previous process
(Cu, Cd, Co, Ni) are cemented with zinc metal powder in order to get purified solution.

Electrolysis
The pure zinc solution is then electrolyzed with electricity, and the zinc metal is deposited from the solution on an aluminum electrode (Cathode). The zinc cathode is then stripped off the aluminum and then sent to the melting and casting plant.

Casting Plant
This is the final step in the zinc refining process. The zinc cathode is melted in an electric furnace, and then cast into various shapes for sale.

Sulphuric Acid
Xmetech also specializes in the production of sulphuric acid, which is a by product of the zinc refining process, the main uses of Sulphuric acid are in the:

A. Fertilizer Industry
B. Chemical Industry
C. Mining Industry
D. Steel Industry
E. Paper Manufacturing Industry

Top Submerged Lance (TSL) technology

The Top Submerged Lance (TSL) technology has been designed to solve the disposal problem of
1. Residues generated during the refining process, the problem that almost every refinery in the world has in common.
2. Lead plant slag which cannot be disposed of due to high contents of heavy metals.

This technology recovers valuable metals such as zinc, lead, silver and copper as by-products and turns the residue and the lead plant slag into environmentally stable insoluble slag by inserting combustible materials like coal and oxygen and causing turbulence, using Lance, which is introduced into TSL furnace from the top of the furnace. This system also produces a lot of steam by recovering wasted heat in the process of production. Xmetech is able to supply clients with the TSL technology, machinery design, documentation, specialist engineering advice and manufacture of equipment as required.
